Why I Write Humor

Why do I always have a touch of humor in my books?

(a) It seems to pop out when least expected. I see the absurd in situations life deals out (admittedly, after the fact in many cases).

(b) If my writing can coax a laugh out of someone who is feeling lonely, anxious, or depressed, or if something I wrote makes someone chuckle about the absurd, I count it as a success. Making someone smile is what it’s all about.

This horse joke inspired a scene in Horsing Around with Murder.
