Ever since signing up for the Autumn’s Harvest blog hop, I racked my brain for the best way to tie harvest time with romance. I confess I had a tough time settling on a topic, especially since November is pretty much the beginning of winter in Canada. For inspiration, I  pictured scarlet maples and yellow birches, leaves fluttering in the air, romantic walks along forest trails with leaves crunching underfoot and not a mosquito in sight, a couple lying on the ground, their clothes in disarray …. Nope. My brain rebelled. Too cold, too scratchy, too exposed. Next, I pictured fields full of succulent orange globes, round ones, oblong ones, big ones, small ones. You know what I’m talking about. Pumpkins! Now, I was getting somewhere. From there, it was a hop, skip, and a jump to imagining the spicy scent of fresh-baked pumpkin pie, a pair of lovers, plenty of whipped cream. You get the picture.

As my contribution to the Autumn’s Harvest blog hop, I am delighted to offer one of my favorite autumn recipes, Pumpkin Crisp Pie, a recipe guaranteed to bring a man to his knees (metaphorically speaking, of course). What better way to a man’s heart?

Pumpkin Crisp Pie

Topping
1 cup Quick-Cooking (not instant) Oatmeal
¾ cup dark brown sugar
½ cup chopped pecans
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
½ tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, melted

Your favorite pie crust for a 9-inch pie

Filling
1 can (14 oz.) pumpkin purée (1.5 cups)
1 cup (packed) dark brown sugar
1 ¼ cups canned evaporated milk
2 eggs
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp each of ground ginger, ground nutmeg, ¼ tsp ground cloves
(or replace those with 2 ¼ tsp pumpkin pie spice)
½ tsp salt

WHIPPED CREAM!!!!! LOTS OF IT! So soft, so fluffy, so utterly delectable (especially when applied with a lavish hand to all the right places )

Directions
Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees.
Use a fork to combine Topping ingredients. Set aside.
Prepare your piecrust and roll to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Flute the edges.
In a large bowl, whisk together all filling ingredients.
Pour into prepared pie shell.
Bake in pre-heated oven for 15 minutes.
Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 45 minutes.
Sprinkle reserved topping on the pie, bake for an additional 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool before serving.

Don’t forget the whipped cream. Readers, you know what I mean.

FUR BALL FEVER

 Buy Fur Ball Fever

Fur Ball Fever A romantic crime mystery spiked with attitude (most of it warped), tons of humor, and enough steamy sex to drive those who dare read it racing for a cold shower.

5 Stars: “One for the Money meets Best in Show.”
5 Stars: “Fun romance with laugh out loud humor!”

An impulsive pet spa owner who loses her client’s prize pooch …
After a lifetime of impetuous mistakes, pet spa owner Grace Donnelly outdoes herself when she loses Miss Coco Chanel—a shoo-in to win the annual Jersey Shore Fur Ball. Money, careers, and lives are in jeopardy. Too bad her helpers consist of an aging hippie aunt, a renegade schnauzer, and a drag queen. Worst of all, the only man truly qualified to help is her former flame, the hunkiest bodyguard north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

A smokin’ hot bodyguard with his own agenda …
Security specialist Nick Jackson faces his worst nightmare when Grace’s amateur investigation nearly blows his undercover operation. Unless he nails the con-artist who scammed local seniors and whacked a witness, his homicidal granddaddy will take justice into his own liver-spotted hands. To salvage his case, his sanity, and his ex-lover’s velvety skin, Nick joins forces with the sassy crusader who rubs him the wrong way—and so many right ways too.

Together, they weather an explosion of murder, mayhem, and fun …
Action bounces between a beach harboring washed-up corpses, a fancy yacht no honest preacher could possibly afford, and the bawdiest nightclub in Atlantic City. Hazards multiply like bunnies, culminating in romance … and a Fur Ball extravaganza the locals will never forget.

 THE JAGUAR LEGACY

 Buy The Jaguar Legacy

5 Stars: “An intricately woven tale of mystery, romance and the supernatural …”
5 Stars: “Hilarious banter, scorching sexual tension, gripping suspense, mysticism—The Jaguar Legacy has it all! …”

A journalist determined to unveil the truth …
Journalist Charley Underhill disrupts a Mexican archaeological dig, determined to sift rumors from truth about several unexplained deaths in the remote region. She has serious doubts it was an ancient curse that killed the men. Too bad it means keeping a watchful eye peeled for hairy, hungry predators and lying to the no-good womanizing archaeologist with a sexy Scottish accent, brilliant scientific mind, and gaudy Hawaiian shirts. Only the juiciest of exposés will fund her mother’s life-saving treatment.

An archaeologist hell-bent on preventing a premature press leak …
Uncovering the past is archaeologist Dr. Alistair Kincaid’s purpose in life. Still smarting from a ruthless betrayal, he guards his latest discovery, an ancient Olmec city buried deep in the jungles of Oaxaca, in the hopes of making a dazzling comeback. He won’t let a snoopy reporter, even one with a quirky sense of humor, smarts, and a heartwarming smile, destroy his last chance at success. Or steal his heart.

Together, they uncover long-buried secrets best left untouched …
Strands from past lives intertwine with the present, drawing the couple deeper into a legacy of shapeshifting and danger, romance and evil, reincarnation and karma. Torn between saving her mother’s life and betraying the man she loves, Charley must make an impossible choice.

  14. Gail Goodenough says:

I love autumn with all the brilliant colors: oranges, yellows and reds of leaves. I love crisp, cool mornings where the sky is so blue it looks endless and the air is so fresh in your lungs. I love snuggling up in a warm throw on a cold autumn day with a good book. Of course, I love snuggling up with a good book about anytime of the year. I love Thanksgiving because it is a time to remember all the many blessings in my life and express thanks. I love baking spicy pumpkin pies with dollops of cream.

The last thing I read was “Deadly Holiday” by Alexa Grace. Ms. Grace weaves stories of intrigue and passion effortlessly into an easy to read novella—just perfect for the holiday season.

I like stories of the unexpected. I also love the steamy passion but I hate mentioning favorite authors because the list is long. I appreciate the many styles authors use to weave stories of mystery, love, intrigue, preternatural and inspiration. I love reading because I can go anywhere, any time in my mind and imagine indescribable things.

Thank you for this contest and the opportunity to be introduced to new authors.

  15. Tammy Phifer says:

I curl up with a good book no matter what the weather is like all year round. I don’t really have a favorite. Too any to count. I love many different genres so many different authors. But what I do love most of all are series. I love the fact that before a new release comes out I cn reread the series & get swept away all over again.

  16. BookAttict says:

I live in Florida now, so the most I can hope for in Autumn is cooler weather, which of course does lead to increased “snuggle time”!

The last book I finished was “Unravel Me” by Kendall Ryan. I liked it because the hot story line was so unexpected. I also love the steamy passion of the likes of Sylvia Day and Sylvain Reynard, but I hate mentioning favorite authors because the list is long. Im going to try and talk my son into making that desert..it sounds awesome. Romance in Autumn. A walk along a lane with colored leaves blanketing the trees and gently falling to the ground. Humor seems to be a big part of your books, no matter the genre. Would you say that’s consistent throughout your work?

Thanks, Roxy. The pie is delicious. I can vouch for it. As for the humor, I try to make readers smile. Some tell me they laugh out loud. Others object to it. Humor is, apparently, subjective.

That recipe looks delicious. I’ll definitely be making it (but probably not eating it due to my perpetual diet). The family will love it. I’m not sure about romance in autumn. I tend to hibernate once it gets cold. I do like taking long walks in early autumn when the sun is still shining.

  66. Tammy Turner says:

It’s hard to say what exactly would be my Go-To Autumn Romance book. When I think real hard about it, I would have to say it has a sexy, strong, determined male that when it comes to love is just lost. Then there has to be a woman who is usually in need of help or needs to know what love and family is. Together they heal each other and love turns out to be their greatest gift. I also love a happy ending at this time of year, usually where the epilogue has them starting their own family to love and cherish. Oh….and definitely HOT loving too!
